VIDEO: NMCDC and Neighborworks Open Doors to Home Ownership for Missoulians

At Headwaters Foundation, we believe that stable housing is part of the foundation for healthy lives and communities. With affordable housing becoming increasingly scarce in Montana, innovative solutions are more important than ever. We are excited to share a new documentary short that highlights an inspiring cooperative housing model designed to prevent displacement and create home ownership opportunities for Missoula residents. This initiative, driven by the collaborative efforts of North Missoula Community Development Corporation (NMCDC) and Neighborworks Montana (NWMT), offers a promising blueprint for addressing housing challenges across Montana.

This video includes first-hand stories of people like Amanda Clouse, whose family of five faced displacement when their rental home went up for sale. Through the intervention of NMCDC and NWMT, Amanda and her neighbors were able to purchase their homes collectively, securing long-term stability and sparking a sense of community ownership. Amanda’s story shows the power of cooperative housing models in providing not only homes but also a platform for community leadership and advocacy.

We invite you to watch this inspiring documentary short by Lara Tomov of Stories for Action and Ken Grinde and learn more about how North Missoula Community Development Corporation and Neighborworks Montana are transforming lives and communities. By supporting innovative approaches like these, we can work toward a future where everyone has access to safe, affordable, and permanent housing.

Are you a renter curious if this model could work for you and your neighbors? Or a property owner or realtor concerned about housing availability and affordability in Missoula? NMCDC is always looking for partners. Reach out to NMCDC at [email protected].
