New Film Project Highlights Creative Solutions to Childhood Hunger
This spring, we partnered with Montana Partnership to End Childhood Hunger and Stories for Action to support a new Community Film Project that highlights how communities across Montana are stepping up with local solutions to support kids and families through food.
Through six short films, you’ll meet school food leaders, farmers, educators, and community members working in Polson, Fairview, Hinsdale, Conrad, Arlee, and Pablo. These are people stretching every dollar, building creative partnerships, and finding ways to get fresh, local food onto plates while helping kids learn where their food comes from.
The stories are different in each place, but the throughline is the same. Across a big, rural state, people are showing up for kids in ways that reflect their communities—whether that’s cooking meals from scratch with Montana-grown ingredients, creating hands-on food education opportunities, or strengthening connections to culture and tradition through food.
As a funder, we support this kind of work because access to healthy food shapes so much of daily life—how kids learn, how families get by, and how communities stay connected. And we know the most effective solutions come from the people closest to the challenges. These films are a chance to see that work up close. They’re also a reminder that real, practical solutions are already taking root across Montana.
Here’s one of the films, featuring one of our grantee partners, Nk̓ʷusm in Arlee, Montana:
Watch all six films to see how communities are tackling childhood hunger in their own ways.
